We only buy SCT Tuners for our Mustangs. The’re the best and easiest to use. They come with 3 Pre-Programmend Mustang tunes that will work for most of us. If you have extensive mods, you can go to Bama Performance for Custom Tunes to fit your Mustang exactly. What else could you possibly want?
If you just need a Tuner, go with the SF3 Power Flash Programmer. It offers 3 Preloaded Tunes and the ability to load custom tunes. It has a USB plug to interface with your PC. Stores multiple Tunes. Has Real time data logging. Corrects for Gear Ration and Tire changes. Allows you to read and clear Check Engine Codes. If you want a Tuner and a Dash Mounted Monitor, go with the Touch Screen Xtremen Power Programmer. It offers 3 Preloaded Tunes and the ability to load custom tunes. It has a USB plug to interface with your PC. Stores multiple Tunes. Has Real time data logging. Corrects for Gear Ration and Tire changes. Allows you to read and clear Check Engine Codes. Can be Dash Mounted allowing you to monitor just about everything including 1/4 mile ETs and 0-60 Times. More Power to the People! -Joe Morgan
Here we review our Mustang Exhaust Systems. A performance exhaust is the 2nd mod we do to our cars. Your Mustang will be faster and sound much more aggressive and modified! People won’t know “what you got.” We would start with and Axle-back of a Cat-back then move up to the mid-pipe, high-flow cats and headers. In most cases, you get what you pay for, that’s why we only recommend Borla, Magnaflow, Flowmaster and JBA Headers. With all these systems you get a Lifetime of service, much better sound and definite performance improvements over your stock pieces. Borla is really the cream-of-the-crop. You get a beautiful looking and sounding system made form aerospace grade T-304 Stainless Steel. The best material for a performance exhaust system. Borla’s mandrel-bent tubing insures even thickness in the walls and eliminates excessive back-pressure and provides a smooth exit for spent gases. We think you are paying a little for the name, but you won’t be disapointed. If money is no object, this is what we would buy. Our next choice is are the Magnaflow or Flowmaster systems. They’re made of 409 Stainless Steel and offer fast-flowing, restriction-free performance. They save you a little coin over the Borla systems and don’t sacrifice much, if any, in quality and performance. These systems are very similar in quality and performance and it really comes down to your personal preference and the sound. Listen to the sound clips below for comparison or Click on the “Configure” Button and listen more sound selections to help you decide. For Headers, our choice is JBA. Ceramic or Stainless Steel, pick the ones that fit your budget. Long-tubes are going to give you more performance, but can hang down and limit your ground clearance. They also can suck the oil right out of a 4.6, meaning you need to monitor your oil levels if you’re running hard or racing, but they give you a much better performance gain over the shorties. Long-tubes Silver Ceramic Coated are our choice if money is no object. If money and CARB compliance are important to you, then go with the Shorty Headers. 2003 Cobra “Terminator” Borla Stinger Cat-back 2007 GT500 Full Magnaflow Exhaust 2005 Mustang GT Flowmaster American Thunder Axle-back 2005 Mustang GT with JBA Longtube Headers, Off-road H-pipe and Axle-back Power to the People! -CudaCobraLISTEN TO THESE SOUND CLIPS TO HELP YOU DECIDE
A Cold Air Intake (CAI) is the 1st thing we do to our cars. It’s really, really easy with a few tools and it gives you a big bang for your bucks! Your Grandma could install it for you! Rear Wheel Horsepower and Torque increases from 14 HP to 38 HP, depending on your Model Pony, is no joke. (Read the 5.0 Mustang Steeda Installation Write-up)
Many CAI’s are very similar. We’ve listed the ones we like best below, in the order we like them. Whatever you brand you choose, the smoother the intake tube, less turns and bends it takes getting air into your Pony the better. We don’t recommend those that stick your filter in the fender-well. That sharp 90 degree turn right at the filter screws up your air flow and in heavy rain you can soak your filter causing your ride to stall or even worse if it manages to suck in much water.
After Steeda, the Airaid systems are as good and any of the others out there like JLT, C&L, etc… and they don’t require a Tune. However, a tune will improve performance (Read 5.0 Magazine’s recent Airaid Review) Also, they are constructed of mostly plastic, which means they don’t suffer heat soak from your engine affecting your performance gains as your Stang heat’s up. That’s a good thing! If you have to have that shinny CAI because you plan to run the Car Show circuit, we recommend the BBK’s. They’re very well designed; solid and dress up the old engine bay. They also cover a larger array of Mustangs from 1986-2011. They will suffer a little from heat-soak and reduce your performance gain as your car heats up, but sometimes you have to sacrifice for beauty! (Read the 5.0 Magazine Tech Inspection)
